3D Anamorphic Frog at Heathrow Airport Terminal 4

Terminal 4 (Departures, Airside), London Heathrow Airport (LHR), United Kingdom, 2020

Bringing Anamorphic Street Art to London’s Busiest Airport

In 2020, I was invited to execute a site-specific anamorphic 3D painting inside London Heathrow Airport (Terminal 4). As one of the world’s primary international transport hubs, Heathrow launched a public art initiative aimed at turning transit spaces into immersive cultural experiences for passengers.

Painting in a high-security airport departure terminal presented unique creative and logistical challenges. Working within strict time constraints and controlled environments, the piece was designed to interact directly with travelers passing through the concourse, offering them an unexpected optical illusion as they navigated the space.

The Story Behind the Artwork & Technical Execution

The artwork features a giant 3D blue frog emerging dynamically from the surrounding surface structure. By calculating forced perspective, light cast, and precise shadows onto the architectural backdrop, the creature appears to float floating out of the wall into real space when viewed from the exact vantage point.

This installation became an interactive photo backdrop for international travelers, blending street art techniques with indoor public architecture. The piece demonstrates how 3D anamorphic graffiti can break the monotony of institutional spaces, creating a memorable moment of wonder for thousands of daily passengers moving between destinations.
